Acid Mine Water

Aeration Basin photo

Acid mine water is caused by the natural seepage

of moisture through the ground that reacts with iron pyrites.

This moisture eventually accumulates within the mine as

water that contains free sulphuric acid.

This water is then pumped out of the mine and carefully

neutralised and disposed of.
