Battery
This was the earliest method of crushing gold ore. Stamp batteries or stamp mill is a machine which has a metal trough where ore and water is placed, then heavy iron pestles are continuously dropped into the trough, which breaks up the ore until it is fine enough to filter through mesh screens. Ball mills are now more commonly used.
